Established in 1990, Ampersand has designed a huge variety of items for a wide range of clients, from magazines, books and brochures, to annual accounts, corporate identity, stationery and advertisements. Clients range from multinational organisations to local charities and private individuals.
Ampersand prides itself on working closely with clients in developing a design solution to effectively meet their needs, often working within brand guidelines and to strict deadlines.
We are based just south of Malton in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds countryside, with easy access to York and Leeds.
In classrooms of old, children recited the alphabet together and ended with the symbol '&". But it sounded daft to say "X, Y, Z and per se, and". Sloppy speech soon slurred this to ampersand. The symbol itself is a stylised version of the letters E and T, making up the Latin "et", meaning "and".
Today, the & symbol is incorporated into the design of every new font and is a part of every existing roman alphabet. When creating a new typeface, a designer can inject the most artistic flair into the ampersand character. Therefore the & has become the ornament of the alphabet and thus an appropriate name for a graphic design business.
